Mountain Island
We chose the name Mountain Island Retrievers based on where we lived in the Charlotte, NC area but found that it was quite appropriate for our new location in the Bluemont, VA area.
Our Chesapeakes enjoy a 27 acre, hunting retriever friendly, "island" in the Blue Ridge Mountains. On a flat "bench" about 400 ft in altitude below the Appalachian Trail and about a mile from, and 800 feet above, the Shenandoah River, we feel like we are on an island in the mountains when we get home. Morgen, Parker and Nuke enjoy swimming in the spring fed pond and "hiking" the forested part of the property.
The dogs are happy to share their "island" with deer, turkey and even a bear or two and we are working with a forester to clear some retriever training areas.

The New Timber Frame Barn
We are constructing a timber frame barn with some of the wood for the timbers coming from the property. It will be dog friendly.
To the left is the first "bent" of the timber frame assembled in the saw mill.
Below are other photos of the construction process. We hope to be complete by spring.
